テト １
１ パウロ、神の僕であり、また、イエス・キリストの使徒から――わたしは神に選ばれた者の信仰と、信心に従う真理の知識とのために、
２ [1]偽ることのできない神が、時間の始まる[2]永遠の前から約束して下さった永遠のいのちの望みにあるのです。
３ ご自分の定めの時に、そのみ言を宣教によって明らかにされた、わたしは、わたしたちの救主なる神の命令によって、この宣教の任に任命されたのです。――
４ 同じ信仰にある、わたしの真実の子テトスへ。父なる神とわたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスから、恵みと[3]あわれみと平安とが、あなたにありますように。
５ わたしがあなたをクレテに残してきたのは、そこに残してあることを整え、また、わたしがあなたに指図しておいたように、町ごとに長老を任命してもらうためです。
６ （長老は、）だれでも、もし、責められる点がなく、ひとりの妻の夫であり、その子たちも信仰深く、浪費や不従順の避難のない者でないならば結構です。
７ 監督（見守り人）は、[4]神の執事であるので、避難される点がなく、わがままでなく、短期でなく、酒を好まず、短気でなく、金銭欲がなく、
８ かえって、旅人をもてなし、善を愛する者であり、[5]冷静で、正しく、[6]清く、自制する者であり、
９ 教に従った揺るがない言葉を守る人でなければなりません。それは、彼が健全な教によって反対する者をさとして、誤りを指摘することができるためです。
１０ というのは、[7]不従順な者、無駄話しに走る者、人の心を惑わす者が多くおり、とくに割礼のある者の中に多いからです。
１１ 彼らの口をふさがなければなりません。彼らは[8]不正な利益のために、教えてはならないことを教えて、いくつもの家庭を[9]完全に破壊してしまっています。
１２ 彼ら自身のうちのある預言者が「クレテ人は、いつもうそつき、悪いけもの、なまけ者の大食漢」と言っているが、
１３ この非難はあたっています。ですから、彼らをきびしく叱責しなさい。それは、その信仰が健全であるようにし、
１４ ユダヤ人の作り話や、真理からそれていった人々の定めなどに、心を寄せることがないようにさせなさい。
１５ きよい人には、すべてのものがきよい。しかし、汚れている人と、不信仰な人には、きよいものは一つもなく、その知性も良心も汚れてしまっています。
１６ 彼らは神を知っていると告白していても、行いでは神を否定しています。彼らは忌まわしい者、また不服従な者であって、いっさいの良いわざに関しては、失格者なのです。
Tit 1:1 Paul, a servant of God and an
apostle of Jesus Christ (according to the faith of God's elect, in the
acknowledging of the truth which is according to godliness
Tit 1:2 on hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the eternal times,
Tit 1:3 but revealed His Word in its own times in a proclamation, with which I was entrusted by the command of God our Savior,)
Tit 1:4 to Titus, a true child according to our common faith. Grace mercy and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
Tit 1:5 For this cause I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed you,
Tit 1:6 if anyone is blameless, husband of one wife, having believing children, not accused of loose behavior, or disobedient.
Tit 1:7 For an overseer must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not full of passion, not given to wine, not quarrelsome, not greedy for ill gain;
Tit 1:8 but hospitable, a lover of good, discreet, just, holy, temperate,
Tit 1:9 holding fast the faithful Word according to the doctrine, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and to convict the gainsayers.
Tit 1:10 For there are indeed many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
Tit 1:11 whose mouth you must stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things not right for the sake of ill gain.
Tit 1:12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.
Tit 1:13 This witness is true; for which cause convict them sharply, so that they may be sound in the faith,
Tit 1:14 not giving heed to Jewish myths and commandments of men, turning away from the truth.
Tit 1:15 To the pure all things are pure. But to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny Him, being abominable and disobedient and reprobate to every good work.
