１ しかし、あなたは、健全な教にかなうことを語りなさい。
２ 老人たちには冷静で、敬虔で、穏やかであり、また、信仰において、愛において、忍耐においても健全であるように、
３ また、同じように、年老いた婦人たちにも、敬虔な者に似合う作法をし、他人の悪口をいう者たちや酒飲みにならないで、良いことを教える教師とならしめなさい。
４ それは、若い女たちを、彼女たちの智によって、夫を愛し、子供を愛する者にさせ、
５ 慎み深く、純潔で、家事に努め、善良で、自分の夫に従順であるようにさせるためです。それは、神の言がそしりを受けないためなのです。
６ 若い男にも同じように慎重であるように勧めなさい。
７ すべてのことについて、あなた自身を良いわざの模範として示し、人を教える場合には、[1]高潔さと、深い尊敬と清廉さをもってなし、
８ 健全で非難されるところのない言葉を用いなさい。それは、反対者が、[2]あなたについて悪口を言えなくなって恥じいるようになるためです。
９ 奴隷には、その主人に服従して、すべてのことで喜ばれるようになり、口答えをせず、
１０ くすねることをしないで、忠誠心を示すようにさせなさい。それは、[3]彼らが神であるあなたがたの救い主の教えを飾るためです。
１１ それは、[4]救いをもたらす神の恵がすべての人に現れ、

Qualities
of a Sound Church
2 But
as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:
2 that
the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in
patience;
3 the
older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not
given to much wine, teachers of good things—
4 that
they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 to
be discreet,
chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God
may not be blasphemed.
6 Likewise,
exhort the young men to be sober-minded,
7 in
all things showing yourself to
be a
pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity,
reverence, incorruptibility,[a]
8 sound
speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed,
having nothing evil to say of you.[b]
9 Exhort bondservants to be
obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,
10 not
pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of
God our Savior in all things.
Trained
by Saving Grace
11 For
the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching
us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly,
righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking
for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus
Christ,
14 who
gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify
for HimselfHis own
special people, zealous for good works.
15 Speak
these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
